JOX Gear is building a bold, inclusive men’s lifestyle brand where performance, confidence, sexuality, and self-expression meet. We’re seeking an experienced, high-profile design leader to own the creative and technical direction across our collections.

Role Overview

As Chief Designer, you will lead the end-to-end design vision for JOX Gear — from concept to production — across men’s underwear, swimwear, sports gear, and fetish-inspired apparel. This is a hands-on leadership role that blends creative vision with technical excellence, fit expertise, and manufacturing reality.

Core Responsibilities

  • Own the JOX design vision across all categories; set seasonal direction, capsule concepts, and signature brand codes.
  • Design and develop products from sketch to final: silhouettes, pouch engineering, construction, trims, fabrics, and waistbands.
  • Lead fit and standards: establish fit blocks, grading strategy, and consistent sizing across styles.
  • Direct technical execution: approve tech packs, prototypes, strike-offs, and production samples.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure feasibility, costing, quality, and on-time delivery.
  • Drive innovation in comfort, support, performance materials, and elevated fetish/statement design.
  • Partner with brand/marketing on campaign styling, product storytelling, and visual consistency.
  • Build and lead teams (in-house and freelance): designers, developers, pattern makers, and technical partners.

Categories You’ll Lead

  • Men’s underwear: jockstraps, briefs, bikini briefs, thongs, boxer briefs
  • Men’s swimwear: briefs, trunks, fitted/contour swim silhouettes
  • Sports gear: compression and performance-driven men’s essentials
  • Fetish gear: bold, fashion-forward pieces rooted in fit, comfort, and expression

Required Experience

  • 5+ years in apparel design with deep experience in men’s underwear and/or swimwear. (We will also consider an apparel design student if NO direct experience)
  • Proven senior leadership experience (Head of Design, Design Director, Senior Designer lead, or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of stretch materials, elastics, intimate construction, pouch/contour engineering, and fit.
  • Portfolio showing premium taste + commercial results (products that sold, scaled, or defined a brand).
  • Factory experience: sampling, approvals, tech pack oversight, and problem-solving through production.

Preferred (Will give you a competitive edge)

  • Fetish/sex-positive men’s fashion experience or strong cultural fluency in the space.
***LGBTQ+ or LGBTQ+-friendly ENCOURAGED to apply***
  • DTC brand experience with fast iteration and strong point-of-view product drops.
  • Existing supplier network (factories, pattern makers, elastic mills, trim vendors).
  • Experience building design systems, fit libraries, and repeatable development workflows.

Skills & Tools

  • Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop; strong technical sketching and spec documentation.
  • Comfortable leading fittings and communicating with factories clearly and decisively.
  • Strong material knowledge and taste for premium trims, elastics, and finishes.
  • Ability to balance bold creative direction with margin, quality, and production timelines.

What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)

  • Establish fit blocks and a clear sizing standard across key underwear silhouettes.
  • Define JOX “design codes” (waistbands, trims, materials, signature construction details).
  • Deliver a seasonal line plan with a cohesive story + a clear hero product strategy.
  • Approve an initial set of samples ready for campaign and production planning.

Compensation

Internship to begin with then moves to Equity/long-term incentives may be available for the right candidate.
